Michael Whelan is an American artist most famous for his cover artwork for numerous science fiction and fantasy novels. Whelan was inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame for his work which includes over 300 pieces of cover art. He has won 15 Hugo awards in his lifetime, more than any other artist. Additionally, Whelan has done the cover art for several record albums, including Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell II and The Jacksons' Victory.
Connection to the Dark Tower Series[]
Whelan is responsible for some of the most iconic artwork surrounding The Dark Tower Series. He created all of the artwork in both the first and the last volumes of the series, The Gunslinger and The Dark Tower.
