It is a horror novel written by Stephen King. It tells the story of seven children who confront a malevolent shape-shifting entity known alternatively as "It", "Bob Gray", and "Pennywise the Dancing Clown".

Starting in Derry, Maine a flood has swept through the town and had taken down the electricity in the town and at that moment Bill Denbrough is in bed with a cold and his brother George is talking to him. To have fun inside Bill tries to finish a paper boat that he had been making for George and after making it water proof, George goes out to sail it. So he puts on a yellow rain coat and sails the boat in a stream of water leading to a storm drain where the boat sildes down into.
Going over to see if there was any chance of recovering it, George meets It taking the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown, or as It calls Itself Mr. Robert (Bob) Gray. Pennywise holds out the paper boat and tells George that he was part of a circus that (due to the storm that caused the flood) was blown into the sewers. Pennywise than offers George a balloon saying that it floats and he will float too. When George reaches down into the drain to get the ballon and paper boat It grabs Georges hand and tunrs into It`s true form that wiped out Georges mind; but it was a short effect because then It rips Georges arm out and he died.
A neighbor comes in and sees George dead and calls the police and soon the rest of the Denbrough family find out about his death.
Years later at the Derry festival, several bullies attacked two homosexuals men because on of them, Adrian Mellon, is wearing a hat with the words "I HEART DERRY". They beat Adrian Mellon and knock his boyfriend into a gutter, where he watches the bullies throw Adrian into the Derry Canal. Adrian's situation goes from bad to much worse; Pennywise the Clown is lying in wait in the canal. The clown breaks all of Adrian`s ribs, and as he starts to eat him, It releases thousands of ballons that conceal It. The balloons are printed with the words I HEART DERRY.
A few months later Stanly Uris a former Derry citizen is at home far away when he gets a call from Mike Hanlon former friend of him who is still in Derry. Telling him that It is back Stably goes upstairs to take a bath and his wife is worried because Stan had never taken a bath at seven o`clock. After a few minutes she goes and gets him a beer to calm him down from the strange phone call, but the bathroom door is locked. Now deeply troubled she gets a key to open the door.
Inside she sees Stan in the bath tub, dead, because he had slit his wrist and while he was dying wrote in his own blood a message on the bathroom tiles. Which is jokenly called 'the briefest suicide note ever'. He had written right before he died: IT.
Across the country Rich Tozier also a friend of Stan and Mike from Derry gets a call from Mike Hanlon about the return of Pennywise. He then calls Derry to book a room to stay in once he arrived and vomits from anxity. He starts to remember that while in Derry him and the rest of his friends had been bullied by Henry Bowers. With fear he goes to return to Derry.
Ben Hanscom is then called to retun to Derry and deeply worried he goes to a bar and gets drunk and gives the bar owner three silver quarters saying that he ahd melted the fourth one to make a silver slug to fight It. Very drunk he goes out to his car and drives to an airport to go back to Derry.
Eddie Kaspbrak is also perparing to go back to Derry after his call from Mike Hanlon and was packing his pills/ointments. He wife screams at him to not go and stay but Eddie had all ready called a taxi and he leaves and he remembers his mother way of treating him in Derry. Remembering how he had looked through a fancy X-ray tool at a shoe storte and his mother yelled at him 'EDDIE THOSE THING GIVE YOU CANCER!' and she drags him away crying.
Beverly Rogan wakes up to a call from Mike Hanlon and her abusive husband whips her wiuth a belt and tries to bring her to bed. But she fights back and throws bottles of perfume and make-up that break and shatter cutting up Tom Rogan. After a glass coffee table is broken Bevery gets the belt and lahes out at Tom by hitting him is his mouth that busts his lips, and then in his groin whch makes him collapse. Bevery leaves him and runs out to go back to Derry.
Bill Denbrough who is now a famous horror writer gets his call from Mike and is packing up his stuff to run to Derry but his wife Audra tries to come with him but he refuses. Upon packing up he makes his wife promise to stay and not follow him and he does out to Derry.
The first interlude is Mike Hanlon who was researching the child murders and final comes to a conclusion that it is It. That Pennywise was still alive and very sadly he starts to call the others.
Ben is having a flashback of his last day in fifth grade when he was taking the final test. Henry Bowers tries and copy of his test but Ben does not let him. Promising to beat him up Henry flunks the test they get their report cards except for Henry who the teacher talks to.
Outside Ben has a brief talk with his crush Beverly Marsh (Rogan had been Toms last name). He then rushes off to the library where Henry and his two friends Belch Huggins and Victor Criss watch him. When leaving Ben is near the local Derry Barrens when he is attacks by Henery and the gang. Henry takes out a knife and starts to carve his name into Ben`s stomach!
Belch and Victor are surprised and afraid for long enough for Ben to escape and is chased through the Barren and hides as the three boys pass. Hearing that the bullies were prying off Bill Denbrough and Eddie Kaspbrak who were trying to build a dam. When gone Ben comes in just in time because Bill was kneeling over Eddie who`s aspirator was empty.
Ben Denbrough is on his way to Derry when he has a flash back about the day he had meet Ben, when Eddie had his empty aspirator. After Ben promised to look after Eddie as Bill wheeled away on his bike to get the aspirator refilled. He goes to the pharmacy and gets another refill.
Through the owner of the phamacy`s point of view it is revealed that Eddies aperator was filled with tap water with a cough syrup type taste.

Connections to the Dark Tower SeriesEdit
The creature, It, bears a striking resemblance to Dandelo. For more information about this connection, see the Dandelo page.
It also features the turtle, Maturin, as a force that stands against evil. His voice is heard in It.
The nickname, Stuttering Bill, is shared across stories. In The Dark Tower, it refers to a robot built by North Central Positronics. In It, it refers to Bill Denbrough.
Also, as Ives is listening to a voice projected from It's victims in his kitchen drain, he asks them who they are. They say, "We are Legion". Legion is another name for the Ageless Stranger.
